Chicago LAN

 

Our Chicago LAN is the central node of our Enterprise network.  We are using the following networking devices in this LAN:  

  • Cisco 2811 Router

    • IOS = C2800NM-IPVOICE_IVS-M

      • Needed for VoIP Gatekeeper functionality

  • Cisco Catalyst 2960 Switch

    • 24 100 Mbps ports / 2 Gb uplink ports

  • PIX 501 Firewall

  • Adtran Atlas 500

    • Frame relay connection to LA

We chose to employ sub-interfaces on the serial links to facilitate the ease of adding future frame relay connections.

ChicagoDC

This computer is running Windows 2003 Server with Active Directory, HTTP, and e-mail for the enterprise network.  It also runs DNS and DHCP for the Chicago LAN.  The programs we have installed are Exchange for e-mail services, Symantec Anti-Virus for computer protection, Symantec Backup Exec for data backup, and APC UPS for battery backup in case of temporary power failure.

Chicagolinux

This computer is running Linux Fedora Core 2.  We are running Samba on this machine to allow for secure file and print sharing on the Chicago LAN.  We have added the Webmin program which provides GUI based configuration tools that allows you to configure, start, and stop services not only at the local machine but remotely as well.  We have activated SSH to allow for a secure connection in order to make changes that must be done in command line.      

ChicagoNovell

This computer is operating on Netware 6.5.  This servers is our enterprise FTP and file server and holds all of our project documentation to allow for central access to these file for everyone on the team.

 Gnomestor

This computer is running Windows 2003 Server.  The services running on this machine are MRTG for network monitoring and IIS.  The programs installed are Symantec Anti-Virus for system protection. VCDControlPanel which allows you to mount ISO files that act as a CD-Rom.  They are shared over the network in order to access these programs remotely without actually having the disc.  System Management Server which allows you to gain some control over clients as well as servers.  You can force programs and updates to be loaded on remote computers.  It also allows you to interact with the client computers by remote control, remote assistance, and a package of remote tools.  SQL Server in order to form databases for the System Management Server and the Orion Products.  MRTG tracks traffic on interfaces allowing you to monitor them.  Spice Works is an auditing program that allows you to gain all of the hardware and software that is being used in the network. 

Timeserver

This computer is running Windows 2003 ServerIt is running NTP to allow our network devices to synchronize with each other.  Programs installed areSymantec Anti-Virus for system protection and Kiwi Syslog allows us to centrally keep track of the logs for the enterprise network 

Cluster

The cluster is running Windows 2003 Server. This Cluster is made up of two computers, Gnomegnode1 and Gnode2.  The disk’s that make up the cluster are 3 SCSI disk that are a raid 5 array, allowing tolerance of a hard drive failure.  The cluster is providing three services.  These servers are vital to the operation of the company.  The cluster is running DHCP, file server, and a print server.  

Gnetwork-Manage

This computer is running Windows 2003 Server.  The programswe have installed are Symantec Anti-Virus for system protection and CiscoWorks Small Network Management Solutions, which allows for real time network monitoring.
